A Marimekko Textilian Appreciation

Just wanted to share my love for some new textiles from Marimekko's Fall '09 collection. Whimsical and beautiful at the same time. The Mustangi [left] one in particular has a kind of haunted feel, while the Ylailmoissa [right] one is twiddling with Surrealism. I'd love to swaddle something from my house in these fabrics, or even frame them.

Building Things in the Loft

Finally the aluminum ladder is gone. Replaced by this lovely part-bought/part-reclaimed wooden one. I sanded it down after we finished it and it gave me a lot of joy to know that we made something ourselves. Time to get the ball rolling.

Also here's a photo of the main space, just because.

Portfolio!

My whole portfolio is now online. [Click photo to link.] Eventually I want to have all the work individualized on my photo page, but for now, here is each page as it stands.
On the job front, I've got something non-interiors related in order to pay rent. But still on the hunt!
Once I unpack my camera I want to get some pictures of my loft on here. Before our renovations! I'm trying to design a set of stairs that does not require a lot of material.
As of now, tasks for today include de-frosting the fridge, taking Bubu to the park, and working on a painting. Wonderful Saturday!

Work from London

Here's my favorite piece that I completed in London last spring. The assignment was to first select a two-page spread from a magazine. I loved the clean lines in the space, and I'm crazy about the natural light coming in through the clerestory windows. Then the image had to be reproduced in several different mediums, including collage [seen here], watercolor, marker & colored pencil, and a monochrome.

Click on the photo for a detail view or see all of my variations.

JobQuest 2009: A Summary

Total days of active job hunting: 110.
Total days of intense "time to get down to business this is starting to get ridiculous" job hunting: 37.
Applications: 47.
Interviews: 3.

Based on my math, which may or may not be correct, by my current job quest methods, I have a 2.7% daily success rate for an interview. I believe I need to step up my game. One day I will be employed!

Thesis- May 2009

I made a slideshow with some images from my thesis presentation. Enjoy!

Also, a quote that inspired me last year when I was beginning research:
"A community exists by loyalties; great art lives off lesser artists; artists themselves make an audience; they are true critics and the best interpreters."
